I have seen so many businesses go under the past six months and I’ve been very fortunate to have a landlord that has been helping me keep the dream alive. ![]() Thank goodness my landlord is working with me so I can keep the doors open and keep people focused on their health and fitness goals. This year started off good then that pandemic hit so that was a very hard blow to come out of. The odds were definitely against me but I felt it was something I had to do and that my mom was helping me from Heaven. I even moved into a retail space that had a gym in it that failed. A lot of people said I would fail and that the area doesn’t need another small independent gym. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you? We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. I have also created a family-like atmosphere and make sure that everyone feels welcomed no matter what stage of their fitness journey they’re at. I’m in the process of building a team of Transformation Coaches that have the same drive and goals as I do – to help those who need complete lifestyle changes. I opened Pro Fit 24 Gym in my moms honor and I am here to help anyone who needs it. Now that I have opened my own gym, “Pro-Fit 24 – Transformation Headquarters,” I can help people that don’t know what to do or where to begin changing their lifestyle. I feel like if I was living there, I could have helped her with her health. ![]() She lived in Philadelphia and I lived here in Texas (since 1988). I wanted to help her so much with her health but she wouldn’t listen to me. It wasn’t until my mother passed away in 2018 at the age of 69 that I took that leap. I’ve been certified as a coach and nutritionist for many years now and have always wanted to take that leap from being an independent trainer to gym owner. She as also a nurse but took care of everyone else except for herself. She was a heavy smoker, never stepped foot into a gym or held a dumbbell. My mother was on the other end of the spectrum. He was also into taking vitamins and supplements. My dad use to take me to the YMCA and showed me how to play racketball in my senior year of high school. ![]() I got my start in the fitness industry teaching group fitness in an aerobics studio in 1990 – a whole 30 years ago this year! I learned at such a young age that fitness is important in your life. Nanci, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
